Music

Our Visual and Performing Arts department offers a comprehensive music program that is accessible to all students, regardless of their experience, ability level, and interests. Our goal is to enrich the lives of each of our students through a meaningful music education by providing an eclectic and all-encompassing music curriculum.

Our music curriculum begins in the Lower Division, where all students are exposed to weekly instruction and learn to experience music through practice and performance. In the Lower Division, our students develop a strong foundation in both concepts and skills as they study the elements of music and apply their skills through singing, dancing, and playing a variety of Orff and percussion instruments.

In the Middle Division, all of our students continue to advance their music education in performance-based classes. Our curriculum offers four different tracks for the students to pursue: Band, Choir, Orchestra, and Bagpipes.

In the Upper Division, our curriculum offers Band, Choir, Orchestra, and Bagpipes for students who wish to continue developing their craft as maturing musicians. In addition to our curricular offerings, we also strive to enhance our curriculum through various performance opportunities outside of the classroom. Extra-curricular opportunities include:
  • A cappella groups
  • Jazz Band
  • Pipe & Drum Corps
  • Spring Musical
  • Berkeley Preparatory Symphonic Orchestra
  • Athletic Band (Pep Band)
